The Journey of Self-Mastery: Finding Your Voice/Sound

Updated: Aug 16, 2025

Self-mastery is a deeply personal journey, one that invites us to pause, reflect, and sometimes set aside what we love in order to uncover who we are truly meant to be. For me, this journey involves embracing the different facets of my identity. Virgil, Provoe, V7, and ultimately, Virgilio. Each persona represents a unique aspect of my creativity and purpose, and discovering their harmony is the symphony of my self-mastery.

Finding the Foundation

As Virgil, I’ve temporarily stepped away from making music to explore who I am meant to be. This isn’t a sign of surrender but a deliberate step toward understanding my core identity. It’s a detour designed to exctract the essence of my being from my day-to-day experience, finding the foundation upon which every other part of me (creative, professional, and personal) can thrive. Just as a house needs strong footings before its walls can rise, so too does my journey require clarity at its base.

During this time, I’ve been reflecting on my experiences, particularly those shaped by moments like Club 959’s 2nd Edition. These events have taught me the importance of grounding myself in authenticity and purpose. By pausing, I’m creating space for growth and ensuring that each subsequent layer aligns with the vision I hold for my life.

Provoe: Mastering the Craft

Meanwhile, Provoe continues to shine as a master of his craft. Creating magic for radio feels second nature now, and the Provoe Planet ecosystem is steadily taking shape. This phase of my journey reminds me that some aspects of our lives naturally fall into place when we focus on excellence and consistency. While Provoe thrives, however, my music producer alter ego, V7, still wrestles with questions of artistic authenticity.

V7, the producer, grapples with the age-old tension many creatives face: Should I lean into sampling techniques or dedicate myself to playing instruments live? Is it better to rely on what’s easier or strive for something more genuine? This internal dialogue reflects the delicate balance between technique and expression, efficiency and soul.

To resolve this, I’ve decided to invest in honing V7’s dexterity on the keyboard. Mastering this craft will add depth to my music and strengthen my confidence as an artist. But this comes only after Virgil has laid the groundwork for Provoe Planet’s foundational ideas. Each step builds on the last, ensuring that nothing is left incomplete or rushed.

Virgilio: The Culmination of Efforts

And then there’s Virgilio, the icing on the cake. Virgilio represents the culmination of all my efforts, the crescendo in the symphony of my life. Once V7 has found his unique sound, Provoe has firmly established dominion over his brand, and Virgil has implemented his ideas, Virgilio will step in to bring it all together with a flourish.

This journey transcends music and branding, into alignment, growth, and creating a legacy. Every pause, struggle, and step forward contributes to a grander design, one where the layers I’m building today will someday come together in ways I can’t yet imagine.

A Message to You

To anyone reading this: whatever journey you’re on, know that the layers you’re building now will eventually harmonize into something extraordinary. There’s beauty in the process, even in the pauses and struggles. Stick around for the ride because the crescendo is going to be something special.

I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Jon Batiste for crafting a soulful piece that inspired this reflection. His work reminds me that artistry, beyond output, is about connection, meaning, and staying true to oneself.

Final Thought:

Every note played, every idea explored, and every challenge faced brings us closer to discovering our true selves. Keep pushing forward, keep reflecting, and trust that your symphony will reach its perfect resolution in time.
